Donated footie boots given a new life

The Budget Boot Drive driven by Budget Rentals New Zealand and the Wellington Phoenix FC helps to bridge the gap created by limited access to sports equipment for kiwi kids.

 With a call to action by Nix players we secured top tier media coverage in a 1 News story asking the public to donate footie boots at the 2024 Easter double header games.

Backed by the Wellington Phoenix community and avid Nix fans, we held a highly successful Budget Boot Drive. Over 150 pairs of boots were collected, empowering aspiring athletes across New Zealand.

With just under 5% of children in low decile schools participating in sports clubs compared to nearly 60% in higher decile schools, the initiative aims to level the playing field in youth sports in New Zealand.

Echoing societal trends, the initiative promotes sustainability by repurposing pre-loved football boots.

The Budget Boot Drive generated coverage across owned media, earned media, mainstream and sport channels, showcasing the potential of collective action to effect positive change in the lives of Kiwi youth.
